Both the discussion on the war in Spain, and the discussion of the situation in Venezuela, seem to have been taken over by those concerned to defend the anarchists.
Perhaps we should have a thread in which we can look at what the anarchists actually say.

On GM foods, the Anarchist Federation says, in its document ‘The Mutants Are Coming!’, “First of all it is vital that a massive campaign of direct action is launched. Test sites need to be trashed again and again and as effectively as possible to cause maximum disruption and financial loss. To the extent that it is possible a campaign of ‘economic sabotage’ (analogous to that of the A.L.F. [Animal Liberation Front] against animal abuse) should be carried out against all companies involved in developing, producing, transporting, advertising or marketing G.M. products.”

So, the anarchists urge direct action by small groups of activists for the reactionary aim of destroying trial GM crops.
How is destroying food crops democratic? What could you call this action other than fascistic?
Note that they endorse the criminal activities of their fellow-anarchists the Animal Liberation Front.

On Spain, the Anarchist Federation says, “The dissident CNT-FAI militants, the Friends of Durutti, summed it up saying that ‘democracy defeated the Spanish people, not fascism’.” Which is to exculpate the fascists and blame democracy.

From ‘In The Tradition - where our politics comes from’, the Anarchist Federation says that in Britain the Anti-Parliamentary Communist Federation (APCF) “was one of the few currents to oppose World War Two on revolutionary internationalist grounds, describing all the belligerent states, including the Soviet Union, as imperialist.”
So our war to save ourselves from being invaded and occupied by Hitler was imperialist, was it? And we and our allies were just as bad as Hitler, were we?
Whose interests did their policies serve? Weren't they undermining the war effort?
Remember, they were addressing British workers, so their treacherous remarks wouldn't weaken Hitler, they would only weaken Britain's struggle for national survival.

brigg and jt ..good to raise issue of Moroccan independence...both because it was just and also as a possible wedge to place between Franco and his mercenary troops.The fact it was not taken up by the Republican government has much to do with the fact that France and Spain ruled the area as a protectorate.It was no doubt felt that it would antagonise Blum and embarrass his government.Both the communist party and POUM spoke for independence only to be overruled by the Spanish socialists and others. The Morrocans themselves had to wait another 10years for independence....while the Spanish had to wait many more decades to  be rid of Franco. On balance it seems the republican decision was right at the time....but it did not do them a great deal of good.
 One issue that i cant resolve ,is why the republicans lost the power to feed their people .I should be grateful of any pointers in that direction.
It must have been a total humiliation when Francos planes dropped bread rolls instead of bombs on Madrid and major towns ..a propaganda coup from the fascists. WE HAVE FOOD APLENTY.....YOU HAVE NONE .!!!!!!!!!!!
